Product Details

What is Foam Clay?

Aura Clay® Foam Clay is an opaque white air-dry clay from Japan. It stands out for its highly elastic, controllable texture.

Developed for versatile use, our Foam Clay is ideal for mini desserts, kawaii figures, DIY projects, and home décor. Even cosplay accessories can be created effortlessly with this self-adhesive air-dry modeling clay.

This specialized clay does not stick to your hands, reliably holds its shape while modeling, and shows only minimal shrinkage during drying. Thanks to its high elasticity, it remains easy to work with even when tinted with colors.

Switching from Polymer Clay? Read this first.

Foam Clay is completely different from polymer clay — and also different from Resin Clay.
Here's what you need to know to get the best results from the start:

The key differences:

- No baking needed — Foam Clay air-dries naturally. No oven, no kiln.

- It dries from the outside in — the surface firms up quickly, but the inside takes
longer. Let thicker pieces cure fully for at least 3-7 days before painting or sealing.

- Ultra-light after drying — Foam Clay loses a lot of weight as it dries and becomes
feather-light. This is completely normal — perfect for cosplay accessories you need
to wear.

- It sticks to almost everything — wire frames, glass, other clay layers. No glue
needed. This is one of the biggest advantages over polymer clay.

- The finish is velvety, not shiny — after drying, Foam Clay has a foam-like, matte
finish. For shine, simply seal with varnish.

- Minimal shrinkage — Foam Clay barely shrinks when drying. What you shape stays
almost exactly as it is.

- Storage is crucial — always seal unused clay immediately in its resealable pouch
and then into an airtight container. A slightly damp paper towel extends shelf
life for months.

Pro tips for your first session:

- Start with a simple round shape — Foam Clay is easy to roll and form. Balls,
teardrops, and flat discs are perfect for beginners.

- Work on a clean, smooth surface — Foam Clay sticks strongly, so use parchment
paper or a silicone mat.

- Keep your hands slightly moist — this prevents the surface from drying too
quickly while you work.

- Wait 7 days before sealing — the surface dries fast, but full curing takes time.

What's included

  • resealable plastic bag inside the packaging

Getting Started — Your First Foam Clay Project

Ready to create your first piece? Here's everything you need for a confident start.

What you'll need:

- Aura Clay® Foam Clay (that's this!)
- Parchment paper or silicone mat as work surface
- Acrylic paint or chalk pastels for coloring
- Basic tools (toothpick, sculpting needle, or bamboo skewer)
- Optional: wire frame as base for larger figures

Your first session — step by step:

1. Take a small amount of Foam Clay (about the size of a marble).
Less is more for beginners.

2. Knead it gently until smooth. If it feels slightly dry,
add a tiny drop of water.

3. To color: knead a small amount of acrylic paint directly into the clay
before shaping.

4. Shape your piece. Keep unused clay wrapped in cling film while you work.

5. Place your finished piece on parchment paper to dry. Don't place directly
on smooth surfaces without protection — Foam Clay sticks strongly!

6. Wait at least 24 hours before handling. 7 days for full cure.

7. Once fully dry: sand lightly if needed, paint details with acrylic,
and seal with a clear varnish.

Tips & Tricks

Slow down the drying process while modeling

Air-dry clay begins to dry as soon as you remove it from its sealed packaging. Humidity and heat significantly influence the drying time. To keep the clay pliable while modeling, prepare a small bowl of water. Dip your fingertips in it if the clay becomes too dry, or lightly spray larger pieces with water. A little water always works — but it's better to use small amounts. If you have dry hands, we also recommend applying hand cream before modeling.

Is your clay drying too quickly while you work?

If you're working on multiple pieces at once, store them between two slightly damp (not wet!) paper towels. Place your piece on one damp paper towel and cover it with another. This 'sandwich method' maintains the elasticity of unfinished pieces while you work on another. When you're ready to join them, simply remove them from the paper towels.

Pieces not joining well?

No problem! Simply apply a tiny dab of transparent, quick-drying wood or craft glue to your pieces before joining them.

Storage

To ensure your air-drying clay lasts as long as possible, you should store it as airtight as possible. The best way to do this is to put the resin clay back into the resealable bag immediately after use, seal it tightly, and then store it in an airtight container.

Insider tip: If you place a slightly damp paper towel into the airtight container, your resin clay can last for many months without drying out! It is important to regularly replace the towel and disinfect the container with alcohol to prevent the formation of germs.

Ingredients

Resin-based hollow bodies, synthetic adhesive, preservatives and fungicide, water

Drying Time

Within the first few hours after modeling, you can safely touch your Resin Clay piece with care. However, to ensure your creation is fully cured all the way through, allow it to dry for 7 days. After that, your piece can be sanded, painted, or sealed without any issues.
