What is Resin Clay - and why is it so special?
Air-dry clay from Japan with an elastic, smooth texture. Dries to a hard, semi-transparent finish—like porcelain.
Thanks to its unique composition, Resin Clay enables hyper-realistic results — precise, clean, professional.
Does not stick to hands, retains its shape when molded, and only shows about 10% shrinkage. It also remains pliable when colored.
Whether it's your first charm or your hundredth commissioned piece — Aura Clay® delivers reliable results. Can be combined with all other clays.

Switching from Polymer Clay? Read this first.
Resin Clay is fundamentally different from polymer clay — and that's precisely what makes it special. To ensure you get the best results from the start, here are the most important differences:
Key Differences:
- No baking required — Resin Clay air-dries. No oven, no firing, no odor.
- It dries as you work — unlike polymer clay, Resin Clay begins to dry on contact with air. Therefore, work with small amounts and keep a small bowl of water ready to moisten the clay if needed.
- ~10% shrinkage is normal — your work will slightly contract as it dries. With miniatures, this is barely visible and often gives the pieces a finer finish.
- It's softer when wet — work gently and don't force shapes. Let the clay guide you.
- Proper storage is crucial — always immediately seal unused clay in its re-sealable bag and then in an airtight container. A slightly damp paper towel in the container extends its shelf life to many months.
- The finish is unique — Resin Clay dries to a hard, semi-transparent, porcelain-like surface that polymer clay cannot achieve. This is precisely why miniature artists love it.
Tips for Your First Session:
- Start with a simple shape — a small charm or a fruit slice. No complex projects on your first try.
- Keep your hands slightly moist — dry hands accelerate surface drying. Use a small spray bottle or moistened fingertips.
- Wait 7 days before sealing or painting — the surface dries quickly, but complete curing takes time. Rushing this step risks cracks.
Getting Started — Your First Resin Clay Project
Ready for your first creation? Here's everything you need for a successful start.
What you'll need:
- Aura Clay® Resin Clay (this one!)
- A small bowl of water
- Acrylic paints or pastels for coloring
- Simple tools (toothpicks, modeling tools, or a bamboo stick work perfectly)
- A smooth, flat work surface
Your first session — step-by-step:
- Take a small amount of clay (about the size of a grape). For beginners: less is more.
- Knead it gently until it's pliable. If it feels slightly dry, add a tiny drop of water.
- To color: Knead a small amount of acrylic paint directly into the clay before shaping it.
- Shape your piece. Always wrap unused clay in cling film in between steps.
- Place your finished work on a flat surface to dry. Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Wait at least 24 hours before touching it. Allow 7 days for complete curing before sanding, painting, or sealing.
- After complete drying: lightly sand if necessary, paint details with acrylic paint, then seal with a clear varnish.

Tips & Tricks
Slow down the drying process while modeling
Air-dry clay begins to dry as soon as you remove it from its sealed packaging. Humidity and heat significantly influence the drying time. To keep the clay pliable while modeling, prepare a small bowl of water. Dip your fingertips in it if the clay becomes too dry, or lightly spray larger pieces with water. A little water always works — but it's better to use small amounts. If you have dry hands, we also recommend applying hand cream before modeling.
Is your clay drying too quickly while you work?
If you're working on multiple pieces at once, store them between two slightly damp (not wet!) paper towels. Place your piece on one damp paper towel and cover it with another. This 'sandwich method' maintains the elasticity of unfinished pieces while you work on another. When you're ready to join them, simply remove them from the paper towels.
Pieces not joining well?
No problem! Simply apply a tiny dab of transparent, quick-drying wood or craft glue to your pieces before joining them.
Storage & insider tip
To ensure your air-drying clay lasts as long as possible, you should store it as airtight as possible. The best way to do this is to put the resin clay back into the resealable bag immediately after use, seal it tightly, and then store it in an airtight container.
Insider tip: If you place a slightly damp paper towel into the airtight container, your resin clay can last for many months without drying out! It is important to regularly replace the towel and disinfect the container with alcohol to prevent the formation of germs.
Drying time
Within the first few hours after modeling, you can carefully touch your Resin Clay creation without any concerns. However, to ensure that your masterpiece is truly completely dry, you should wait 7 days. After this time, you can sand, paint, or seal your creation without any problems.
