Product Details
What's Marshmallow Resin Clay?
Marshmallow Resin Clay from our Gourmet Clay series is a specialized air-dry clay from Japan. It was developed to authentically recreate realistic miniature food art (fake bakes) and kawaii designs.
With its ultra-light consistency and realistically airy, fluffy structure, this air-dry clay is ideal for creating fake food and miniature treats that look like freshly baked desserts.
Once dry, Resin Clay develops an extremely hard and durable finish, making it perfectly suited for keychains, accessories, charms, and even jewelry pieces.
Ideal for
- Marshmallows and Chocolate-covered marshmallows (Schaumküsse)
- Meringues and Pavlovas
- Whipped cream and dollops
- Soft serve ice cream and mousse
- Airy pastries of all kinds
- Fluffy pancakes and waffles
- Piped decorations and cream rosettes
- Macarons and ladyfingers
- Charms, keychains, and jewelry pieces
Texture & Processing
Marshmallow Resin Clay has an ultra-light, airy, and elastic consistency—this structure imitates real marshmallow dough and makes your miniatures exceptionally authentic. It is non-sticky, allows for precise shaping and texturing, and dries to a feather-light finish.
Pro Tips for Working with the Clay:
- Keep it Supple: Lightly apply hand cream before working to keep the clay smooth. If it becomes too dry while you’re modeling, a light mist of water will help.
- Maintain the Fluff: Avoid pressing the clay too firmly—marshmallows are all about volume!
- Perfect Pastels: For soft pastel tones, Marshmallow Clay can be easily tinted with acrylic paint; a pinhead-sized amount is usually more than enough.
Storage:
After use, place immediately back into the resealable bag and store inside an airtight container.
- Insider Tip: A slightly dampened paper towel kept inside the container will keep the clay fresh for months—just remember to change the towel regularly and periodically disinfect the container with alcohol.
Textur-Techniken & Modeling Tips
Because Marshmallow Resin Clay is so light and soft, it allows for techniques that simply don't work with standard clay:
- The Roll-and-Cut Technique: Roll an even strand of clay. Let it sit in the air for 10–15 minutes until the surface is no longer tacky (leather-hard). Use an extremely sharp, thin blade to cut straight pieces. Because the surface has slightly set, the blade won't flatten the strand, keeping the edges slightly rounded for that iconic "puffed" marshmallow look.
- The Twirl Technique: Roll two thin strands in different colors (e.g., White and Pastel Pink) and gently twist them together. Important: Press them together very lightly—don't pull, or you'll lose the volume and the marshmallow will look "stretched." Cut the ends only after they are fully dry to reveal the perfect spiral pattern.
- The Powdered Sugar Illusion: Real marshmallows aren't shiny; they’re dusty. Once shaped, use a soft brush to dust white pastel chalk or baby powder over the damp material. This kills the artificial shine and perfectly mimics the look of a marshmallow tossed in cornstarch.
- The Indentation Technique: Use a modeling tool or the back of a paintbrush to press a small dimple into the side of the damp clay. Since Marshmallow Clay holds its shape almost perfectly as it dries, the dent remains—looking exactly as if someone just squeezed it.
- The Toasted Technique: For campfire marshmallows: apply dry pastel chalk in light brown and ochre using a soft, dry brush. Layer the color slowly onto the edges. For a "melted" effect, add a drop of satin-finish varnish over the brown areas to simulate caramelized sugar.
Essential Beginner Rules:
- Stay Light: Don’t over-compress the clay. Volume is key!
- Color Mixing: Use only a tiny amount of paint. Real marshmallows are rarely vibrant; they are almost always very pale.
- Cleanliness: Because the clay is white and light-colored, every speck of dust shows. Work on a clean glass plate or silicone mat.

Why Marshmallow Resin Clay?
Most clays are too heavy and dense for airy, soft desserts—the results often end up looking like play-dough rather than real pastry. Marshmallow Resin Clay solves this:
- Pre-colored – The delicate White-Pink tone is perfect from the start.
- Ultra-lightweight – A feather-light finish that feels like the real thing.
- No Baking – Air-drying formula; just shape and let set.
- Consistent Quality – Premium Japanese manufacturing you can trust.
The Result: Precise, clean, hyper-realistic food miniatures—achievable even for beginners.
