Air Dry Clay Earrings: Make your own delicate sakura stud earrings
Share
I don't know about you, but I'm getting seriously fed up with winter! Just when I think we're finally out of the worst of it, the weather gods surprise me with another wave of snow. Where is spring, anyway? Even the snowdrops are still too scared to peek out from under their blanket of snow.
That's why I thought, if spring doesn't want to come, then I'll simply usher it in myself. For me personally, there's nothing more beautiful than the first delicate blossoms of the cherry tree. I love the intricate heart shape of the individual petals and their soft appearance.

📝 Step-by-step instructions
Coloring Resin Clay
Knead a small dab of acrylic paint into a little resin clay (about the size of a marble).

Roll out the roll and cut out the flower shape.
Roll out the resin clay to a thickness of 1mm between two sheets of smooth baking paper/waxed parchment paper. Now cut out the flower using the cutter. If the flower gets stuck, you can blow it out or carefully push it out with a skewer.

Cut out individual petals
Make incisions towards the center so that the shape is divided into 5 petals (cut individually). Smooth and shape the cut edges of the petals with a toothpick.

Roll out the petals finely
Place the tip of the toothpick on the petal and gently roll over it to thin and stretch the edges. Place the petal in your palm and press down on the center with the dotting tool to give it a natural curve. Place the petals on baking paper and let them dry for about a day.

Create flower base
Trim the petals with scissors if necessary, so that the shape and size are a better fit for gluing. Shape a base from clay of the same color: approximately 8 mm in diameter × 1 mm thick.

Assemble flower
Apply glue to the lower part of the petals and firmly attach them to the base using tweezers. Layer the petals together and glue a total of 5 petals in place.

Attach decorations
Apply a small amount of glue to the center of the flower using a toothpick. Attach the metal beads with tweezers. Let it dry completely — and you're done!

Once the base of the flower is completely dry, you can attach the flat part of the earring stud to the base using superglue. Let it dry, then seal the flowers with two coats of superglue. Your air-dry clay sakura earrings are finished!

💡 Pro Tip: Work on one flower at a time, as resin clay dries quickly. It's best not to create two cherry blossoms at the same time.
A brief word about the choice of materials for Air-Dry Clay jewelry:
Please always use resin clay if you want to create intricate and delicate pieces. Foam clay is fantastic if you want voluminous shapes (e.g., round kawaii figures or fluffy desserts), but it's not suitable at all for carving fine flower petals. Also, you should always seal your jewelry! Otherwise, you risk your body heat, combined with moisture, eventually ruining the durability of your air-dry clay creation. That would be a shame!
